In a celebration of Kolkata’s rich food culture, Zomato, India’s leading food ordering and delivery platform, has launched a campaign to honour the city’s iconic street food vendors during Durga Puja. This initiative aims to spotlight the culinary talents behind Kolkata's beloved street food, especially during a festive time when the city is filled with flavours and community spirit.
Recognising that many local food vendors are not yet featured on delivery platforms, Zomato has creatively highlighted these culinary treasures. At Street Number 104, Action Area 1B, Newtown, Kolkata (700156), Zomato has unveiled an impressive 300-meter-long Alpana—a traditional Bengali folk art form. This grand artwork reflects the cultural identity of the region and emphasises the importance of celebrating the city’s culinary delights.
Co-created with local artisans, the intricately designed Alpana showcases the names and locations of some of Kolkata’s most cherished street food vendors, making it easier for food enthusiasts to discover and enjoy their offerings. This artwork not only enhances the festive atmosphere in the city but also serves as a tribute to Kolkata’s street food heritage.
“This campaign is our tribute to Kolkata’s iconic street vendors who may not yet be on the Zomato platform but are an integral part of the city’s cultural landscape,” said Sahibjeet Singh, Marketing Head, Zomato.
The campaign successfully merges traditional art with a celebration of street food, honouring Kolkata’s heritage and the connection between its residents and their culinary traditions.
