Zomato has celebrated Ganesh Utsav with unprecedented customer engagement and record-breaking festive orders. As Maharashtra marked Ganesh Chaturthi with traditional enthusiasm, Zomato has observed a significant spike in demand for festive foods, including a notable feature for ‘Bappa cha prasad’.
The app has introduced a new feature allowing users to order prasad from prominent mandals in Mumbai and Pune. On Ganesh Chaturthi, the service saw an impressive response, with 2,000 boxes of prasad delivered within hours of launching. This feature included offerings from the Dagdusheth Halwai Trust and other renowned local mandals.
Modak sales have surged dramatically. Two days before Ganesh Utsav, Zomato recorded 50,000 searches for modak on 6th September, which soared to 125,000 on 7th September. On the day of the festival, the platform sold 58 modak boxes every minute. In keeping with tradition, modak boxes were available in auspicious quantities of 11 and 21, with over 10 varieties offered. The Ukadiche Modak emerged as the most popular, accounting for 39% of total modak sales. Notably, a customer from Mumbai ordered 42 modak boxes, costing ?11,352 on Ganesh Chaturthi.
In addition to modak, Zomato has reported the highest growth in mithai and sweets, with mithai restaurants experiencing a 240% increase in orders compared to a typical day. A particular brand in Mumbai grew nearly tenfold on the day of Chaturthi. Among snacks, pav bhaji was the most popular, with just under 10,000 sold, followed by samosas and vada pav.
Zomato’s festive features and significant sales highlights demonstrate evolving consumer preferences and the platform’s successful adaptation to seasonal trends.
