ShemarooMe, the OTT extension of media company, Shemaroo Entertainment has added a new show to its content bouquet, with the launch of the 'Mr. D show with Dhwani Gautam'. This will be an all Gujarati talk show, which will feature actors from the Gujarat fraternity and renowed celebrities from the TV industry, who will share the screen to give anecdotes and inside scoops about themselves and their journeys.
With an aim to keep the Gujarati tradition alive and nurtured, the cast will only see mainstream Gujarati actors and professionals, including the Gujarati actors who have been acquired by Bollywood, but haven't done much in the Gujarati space.
Speaking on the launch of ShemarooMe's first Gujarati chat show, Hiren Gada, CEO, Shemaroo Entertainment says, "In the last 5-7 years, there has been a huge upsurge in the Gujarati film industry with the blooming of the Gujarati creative and emergence of new talent."
According to Gada, the rise in the urban storytelling in the Gujarati space has given a boost to the talent, which hasn't been dug up significantly until now.
The show tried to bring together the creative and commercial talent and has a lot of banked episodes which will be released over a period of time.
Being a large canvas, it is not confirmed if the show will continue to have seasons, but the creators will take a call, depending upon the show's performance and reach. "It will all depend on customer feedback, but we're very happy with the show and the core content," said Gada.
The show will not be dubbed, unless it sees a demand for content in other languages. However, it will have subtitles.
Gada believes that a show like this needs to go beyond commercial considerations, even though he sees covering the costs and making a certain margin as a must. "This is our way of showcasing the talent and backstories to the Gujarati fraternity," he adds.
The show has no advertiser interests at the moment and is solely a subscription oriented service offered by ShermarooMe.
"A good amount of work has gone into the research for the making of this show and we are very excited about it," Gada said.
Freddy Daruwala, Parthiv Gohil and Manasi Parekh amongst many other Gujarati favourites will be a part of the chat show, which will premiere on January 26, 2020 on ShemarooMe and will be available across 152 countries simultaneously.
