In celebration of World Sight Day, Titan Eye+, India’s leading eye care brand, has launched a new initiative aimed at improving road safety by tackling the critical issue of compromised vision among professional drivers. The campaign highlights the importance of eye health for those who spend long hours on the road.
To engage truck drivers, who often neglect their eye care, Titan Eye+ has introduced the “Eye Test Menu.” This innovative approach transforms pit stops at dhabas into opportunities for vision screening. Instead of a traditional food menu, the ‘Eye Test Menu’ is displayed on walls, allowing drivers to assess their vision interactively.
Mr. Maneesh Krishnamurthy, Marketing Head, Eyecare Division, Titan Company, stated, “Every year, World Sight Day is an opportunity for Titan Eye+ to draw attention to eye care. This year, we have taken the theme 'Make Indian Roads Safe' because our roads are only as safe as the people who drive on them. The ‘Eye Test Menu’ film, created with the team at Ogilvy, is an innovation we’re particularly proud of as it reaches people where they are.”
The eye test camps feature free on-the-spot eye exams conducted by qualified optometrists. Drivers diagnosed with vision issues receive corrective spectacles, which are shipped to their homes at subsidised prices.
This initiative has already reached over 7,000 drivers and continues to expand its impact. Titan Eye+ collaborates with platforms like Namma Yatri to offer free eye tests to delivery partners, rickshaw drivers, and cab drivers—key members of the transportation ecosystem.
Research indicates that 1 in 3 truck drivers in India suffer from poor vision, significantly affecting their ability to drive safely. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (2022), India records over 25,000 accidents and more than 10,000 fatalities linked to trucks and lorries each year. Despite these alarming statistics, many drivers still view eye care as a low priority. This initiative reflects Titan Eye+’s commitment to raising awareness about eye health and creating a lasting impact on road safety.
