State Bank of India (SBI) has appointed Debasish Mishra as the new Chief General Manager (CGM) of its New Delhi Circle, effective November 1, 2024. With a career spanning over 25 years, Mishra brings a wealth of experience across multiple banking sectors including Credit, Operations, Forex, IT, HR, and MSME, both in India and internationally. He will oversee SBI's operations across more than 1,700 branches in the New Delhi region.
Mishra’s notable contributions include pioneering initiatives such as the establishment of Start-Up branches at IIIT Hyderabad and IIT Madras and managing 3,245 business solutions at the Bank level. Additionally, Mishra is a Certified Financial Planner and a Chevening Gurukul Scholar.
This appointment is seen as a strategic move to continue reinforcing SBI’s market leadership. “With Mishra’s leadership and expertise, SBI’s New Delhi Circle is well-positioned to enhance its services and expand further,” said Paul Mottram, Group Executive Director, SBI.
As India’s largest commercial bank, SBI commands a significant market share of 26.3% in home loans and 19.6% in auto loans. It operates an expansive network of over 22,500 branches and 62,000 ATMs across India. In addition, SBI has made considerable strides in digital banking, with 128 million customers using internet banking and 274 million users of its mobile banking platform.
SBI’s digital platform, YONO, has gained substantial momentum, with over 7.76 crore registered users. In Q1 FY25, SBI processed 63% of new savings accounts through YONO, further cementing the bank’s focus on digital transformation. Additionally, the bank disbursed Rs. 1,399 crore in pre-approved personal loans via the YONO platform during the same period.
