PUMA India has launched its audacious campaign, 'YOU NEED BALLS', featuring prominent cricketers Harmanpreet Kaur, Captain of the Indian cricket team and PUMA ambassador, and Richa Ghosh, Wicketkeeper-batter, aimed at redefining aggression on the field in women's cricket. This initiative follows the brand's previous campaign, CRICKET IS EVERYONE’S GAME, and seeks to empower female athletes through striking imagery and powerful messaging.
The campaign showcases the cricketers in bold poses, highlighting their exceptional achievements in the sport. Alongside Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh, the photoshoot includes players Sajana Sajeevan, Hemalatha Dayalan, and Asha Sobhana, who exemplify the spirit and determination of women's cricket.
Harmanpreet Kaur commented, “There’s no denying that cricket has historically been a male-dominated sport, but we women are fiercely changing that perception. We’re here to change the conversation and show that true glory is earned ball-by-ball.”
The campaign highlights remarkable feats, such as Harmanpreet Kaur's impressive 171 runs against Australia in 2017 and Richa Ghosh's record-breaking 64 runs off just 29 balls against UAE in 2024. Other notable achievements include Asha Sobhana's debut 4-wicket haul and Sajana Sajeevan's match-winning six from a single ball.
Richa Ghosh expressed her excitement, stating, “Every ball in cricket presents a new challenge, and that’s what makes the game so exciting. I am extremely happy to be a part of such a historic campaign with PUMA.”
Karthik Balagopalan, Managing Director of PUMA India, stressed the brand's commitment to inclusivity in sports, saying, “Our new campaign powerfully accelerates this belief, headlined by our incredible cricketers. Sport is for all.”
PUMA India continues to advocate for gender equality in sports, positioning itself as a champion for women's cricket and breaking down outdated stereotypes. With a roster of esteemed ambassadors, PUMA aims to inspire future generations of athletes across various sports.
