What is Indianama?
Indianama is a creative initiative launched in 2016 by the New Delhi-based agency Animal, designed to redefine the conversation around Indian design. Each thematic edition delves into various aspects of Indian history, culture, and society through a contemporary design lens.
Previous Editions
One notable edition, Remapping History, invited 69 artists to reinterpret significant events from 1947 to 2016, offering a unique visual journey through modern Indian history. Other themes, such as A Nation Set in Motion and The Streets with a Name, encouraged artists to depict India from fresh perspectives and engage with urban branding.
Indianama 2024 Details
This year’s edition, Indianama 2024, opens on October 25th from 6 PM to 9 PM at @methodindia, Kala Ghoda. The exhibition will feature 42 artists showcasing 40 printed stamps that reflect facets of India that have either been ‘Lost’—consigned to history—or ‘Found’—witnessed a revival.
The Significance of Stamps
Historically, stamps serve as a conduit for a country’s communication, making the themes of erasure and rediscovery significant in crafting messages for an India at the crossroads of the past, present, and future.
Media Coverage and Recognition
Indianama has gained recognition in various media outlets, including Red Bull, Homegrown, Vogue India, and Architectural Digest India, and has also been discussed on TEDx. It previously featured at the Jerusalem Design Week in 2019.
As Indianama continues to foster discussions on India’s evolving identity, it serves as a vital platform for artists and designers to creatively engage with the nation’s rich cultural heritage and contemporary issues.
