In a competitive bidding process, Disney Star has won the tender to produce a web series commemorating the 90-year journey of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The production, set to span five episodes of 25 to 30 minutes each, will be created as part of the central bank’s celebrations marking its milestone anniversary.
The RBI issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) in July this year, inviting bids for the production and distribution of the web series. Among the contenders were major players such as Viacom 18, Zee Entertainment Network Limited, and Discovery Communications India. However, following the technical evaluation round, both Zee Entertainment and Discovery were disqualified from further consideration.
The contract, valued at Rs 6.5 crore, was awarded to Disney Star, which will create the series intended for national television and OTT platforms. The web series aims to provide a detailed account of the Reserve Bank's history, which dates back to its establishment in 1935, offering viewers an in-depth look at the institution’s role in shaping India's financial landscape.
As the web series nears production, Disney Star will likely leverage its broad media network to ensure the series reaches a wide audience. The RBI’s initiative is seen as a way to educate and engage the public with the central bank's operations and significant historical contributions to the economy.
With the rise of digital and television content in India, this series could also attract significant viewership, highlighting the importance of both traditional and digital media platforms in commemorating national institutions.
