Mattel Inc. is commemorating the 65th anniversary of its iconic Barbie® brand by naming Harmanpreet Kaur, Captain of the India Women’s National Cricket Team, as a Barbie role model. This initiative aims to inspire young girls in India to dream big and explore their limitless potential.
Since its launch in 1959 by Ruth Handler, Barbie has evolved from a fashion doll into a cultural icon, inspiring generations of girls through its empowering message. With over 250 careers represented, Barbie encourages children to envision themselves in roles ranging from astronauts to presidents, reinforcing the belief that they can achieve anything.
To mark this milestone, Mattel India has released the ‘You Can Be Anything’ film featuring Harmanpreet Kaur, alongside five young Barbie fans selected during the nationwide Barbie You Can Be Anything Tour at Hamleys. This campaign highlights inspiring stories and the importance of positive role models, encapsulated in the motto, "you can be what you can see."
Aditi Ravichandar, Head of Marketing, Mattel India, stated, “The brand purpose of Barbie is to inspire the limitless potential in every child. We are thrilled to partner with Harmanpreet Kaur, shining a light on women doing amazing things and empowering the next generation.”
