Sony LIV is set to launch a captivating crime thriller series, Manvat Murders, which delves into one of the most chilling historical events that shook India in the 1970s. Directed by Ashish Bende, the show features an ensemble cast with Ashutosh Gowariker portraying the esteemed CID detective, Ramakant S. Kulkarni, often referred to as India's Sherlock Holmes.
In this groundbreaking role, Gowariker's character is depicted as calm, composed, and highly perceptive, embodying the unwavering dedication and expertise required to solve some of history's most intricate cases. The series follows Kulkarni's quest to unravel a series of bizarre murders in rural Maharashtra during the 1970s, all while racing against time.
Speaking about his portrayal of Ramakant S. Kulkarni, Ashutosh Gowariker commented, “I feel extremely fortunate to have been chosen to portray the character of Mr. Ramakant S. Kulkarni, the Police Officer of Bombay CID, who absolutely deserves to be showcased for the audiences today. He solved numerous cases that might have otherwise remained unsolved, including the infamous Manvat Murders. His autobiography, Footprints on the Sands of Crime, provided amazing insights into his process, his eye for detail, and how he believed in ‘searching for the truth, beyond the truth.’”
Gowariker further remarked on collaborating with his co-stars, stating, “Another exciting aspect of this show was my collaboration with Makarand Anaspure after several years and working with two of my favourite actresses – Sonali Kulkarni and Sai Tamhankar. Working with them was like a crash course in acting. I was also excited to collaborate with Director Ashish Bende, who had a deep understanding of this story and my character.”
In preparation for his role, Gowariker met with the family of Ramakant S. Kulkarni, including his daughter, Anita Bhogle, and her husband, Harsha Bhogle, to gain insights into his character’s persona, beliefs, and personal life. “Their inputs helped me prepare for the role. Ramakant ji’s legacy is both inspiring and profound, and I hope that through this series, he will receive the recognition he truly deserves,” Gowariker added.
Manvat Murders is produced by Storyteller’s Nook, led by Mahesh Kothare and Adinath Kothare, and created by Girish Joshi. Based on Ramakant S. Kulkarni's autobiographical work, Footprints on the Sand of Crime, the show promises to deliver a compelling narrative, with Gowariker joined by a talented cast including Makarand Anaspure, Sonali Kulkarni, and Sai Tamhankar.
